And they ovalled out and began to split. It appears these were rolled out of a flat and not forged.
Something is odd here as they are a one-piece forged ring. I've never seen one distort. We've had over 1500 pounds on them with no effect what so ever. Any chance of a picture so we can see what happened?

Ditto! They are rated to 14kn or 3147#. That's incredible if you ovaled them. Must have 0* angle with 100' of suspension on each end and parked your truck on it....

I have the very same rings. I use only one at each end and tie a slippery half hitch with my webbing straps and it works great. No need to have two rings, just use a simple not and save on weight.

Yep, we get lost on the whole buckle aspect of it, when it can be just as well used as a pulley, then tied off.

    good point!

Yes Bubba. I tried two passes through the rings with the Amsteel to hold them together. I then ran the Hennessey cordage in a garda hitch. The rings still rolled into one another.

I weigh 230 lbs and cannot believe these things ovalled. I was unable to post pictures.

Hmmm. Where are the rings? Are they on the hammock or on the tree straps. Maybe try one more wrap?
