I am eyeing those socks hard. I will almost definitely have one by next winter

Unless there's rain or wet snow blowing for those of us without waterproof saunas.

Me too, hadn't seen MrDark since RHK primero.
    Hickory the same.
Just checked the weather mountain link via Wisenber....don't see rain in our direction the whole trip. Did see the wind you were speaking of....do you think they mean it when they say gale?

We'll be glad of the boreal tree cover Friday night.

Boreal tree cover. Well it certainly smells good. NOTHING like spruce and balsam in the sinusoid. But everytime I've been at Roan High Knob---say 50 times in my lifetime, I don't care if it is January or July, the winds kick arse and not in a polite like let me whisp across your cheek kinda way.
But that is why we keep going back isn't it? This is not a friendly place, winter only compounds the draconian, the caustic-our goal as always is to embrace the condition and smile.
That smile plus the best gear I can lay hands on.
Ask Neutron and Vortex about our hang there this summer. RHK really is a place possessed of an ill nature toward human comfort and iced with a sublime reminder that humans even with their pricy gear are mere fodder.

I'd just prefer not setting my tarp up in heavy freezing rain with gale force winds.

I'm having a tough time seeing a fire tonight if it lingers.

Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into. Nightime winds up to 40 mph. http://www.mountain-forecast.com/pea...forecasts/1916
