It would have! Instead I had to rely on Ed Speer's magic that night. 19 inches of snow combined with a second trip to Massie Gap in the dark from Wise Shelter was enough to take the wind out my sails. That combined with forgetting the pump for my white gas stove didn't bode well.

At least we won't need pony repellant on this one.

edit: I was referring to my last Mt. Rogers hang a few years ago.

I was planning on stopping on the way and bringing it with to pull the pulk train. They run on biscuts.

10 day forecasting so with a pound of salt

Snow and in Roan Mtn city 43F/27F
extrapolating from 2500 feet to 6280=24F/8.1F
My guess is that RHK got 1-2 feet tonight, will add another 6-8 inches this Friday.....now how much residual by the hang is anybodies guess.
    So plan on traction aids
No pulk for me, learned that lesson already on Roan, besides a new Elemental Horizon needs to be toted/lived out of to see if Sgt.Rocks recommendation has merit.
We'll be night hiking in and plan on seeing everyone at the hang site Friday night.
p.s. if there is a 2 foot snowpack between Carvers and Overmountain I doubt most will feel like 7 miles of snowshowing. We'll see. I'll head to Carvers on Thursday and survey.

Friday arrivals should be all over the board. Since the hike is just 1.5 miles in, it shouldn't matter that much. I doubt anyone wants to get up there too early and be sitting around in the cold all day.

That being said, "ballpark" arrival times will be nice to have for safety's sake.

A thought on how to address having a shuttle at Hampton Creek Trailhead:

Since it looks like arrivals will be scattered for Friday night, coordinating a dropoff Friday will be a bit difficult.
As we anyone parked at Carvers will be hiking back to Carvers to get to Overmountain anyway, perhaps we can do the shuttle part Saturday morning? That'll take quite abit of driving Saturday, but it might be the only way to pull it off. (It also might afford a "thawing" if needed.)

    Any other suggestions are welcome.

My gut says this is the year

we as a group transit from RHK to Overmountain then over the Hampton Creek Trail.
Really only need one car planted at HCtrailhead right, should be doable.
Whether we end Saturday or Sunday I think most travelers will be headed back through Johnson City....so lets plan a group feed post hike. Wisenber needs to cam me a hamburger
