Happy birthday to both Spamburgler and MedicineMan. Wished I had been there. Glad Wisenber and everybody made it back from the hang safe and sound. Sounds like a really good time even tho it was windy and cold. Beautiful mountain to be on and really enjoyed the reports and MedicineMan's video. Awesome to all of ya's! Keep on hanging!

Glad to hear everyone had a good time and made it off the mountain safely. After reading Wisenber's post I'm glad I didn't come. If the 'Ber got cold, then my skinny self surely would have. Thanks for the vid MM. The scenery is awesome.

I was looking around a bit today for some possible options if one were to be in a spot like I was without the tremendous aid of having other around. That's when I found these.

If I were to find myself in a situation that I could not light a stove and needed a hot beverage to recover, this might be a good option. I may have to pick up a case of these and leave one in an easy to access part of my pack.
I may have to play around with one to see if it will heat the Cocoa (soups are also available) and perhaps have enough heat left to warm some water after drinking the original contents. This might be one of those heavy and bulky items that still earn a place in your pack.

DANGIT. I knew I should have gone. That looks like it was a brutal outting.

Maybe I can try it next weekend.

Have any of the early NOBO thruhikers made it that far yet?

Glad you're all safe and sound. Good trip reports like these help the rest of us learn (and we're never done). Way to look out for each other.

After reading your last trip report, I felt compelled not to be outdone! In contrast to your effort that required a stream crossing, freezing rain and snow, I just had to stand still for about twenty minutes to get the same result.
The key lesson that you can take from my experience is to make sure that you have Spamburglar along to make cocoa. In your case, I understand Hickery did a pretty decent job with hot coffee as well.

So what preceded that twenty minutes that may have helped the wind rob you of warmth? Was it the late start, fatigue, or maybe some part of your gear that wasn't warm enough? Reading about the weather up there made me realize I may not have boots warm enough for a RHK hike.
