    Absolute minimum day hammock?

So let's say that I wanted to build a hammock that is not for sleeping all night in. Just something to sit/lounge in during the day while on a hike. What would be the absolute minimum size and weight I could get away with?

I already have something close to Sgt Rock's Ghost but I wonder if it's possible to go much lighter if it's only for day use?

You could build a gathered end, and then just tie the end a little shorter, and see how you like it. Keep shortening until your uncomfortable, then go back to the last comfort spot. Finish your hammock at this length......RR

Loaded question as everyone has different requirements. At 6ft2 and 280lbs I need a much larger hammock than my wife who is 5ft2 and 150lbs. I have carried a variety of hammocks with me while day hiking such as ENO DN but lateley I have been taking a DIY double 1.0 that is 11 ft long and 60" wide, weighs about 1lb 9oz with suspension
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

How about a NWH Aspen hammock?

Perhaps you might be interested in the NWH Aspen Hammock if you just need something to sit in?

While it is designed for a slightly different task, you could just use it for a 'chair'.

While I typed this up as a bit of humor - I must admit that I have one on order....

This version can also be used with a whoopie, etc. run through the "foot" end channel and attached to a second tree...http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=33787

Northwoods Hammocks will happily make an aspen hammock without the hole. Just ask them (I already did!)

Just remember to bring a pad so you don't get CBS. Or a a cold back. It can can get pretty uncomfortable in seconds (don't ask me how I know ).

Many thanks. You have shown me what I'm looking for. I particularly like the fact that it has so many functions.

I really like gmcttr's chair too. Maybe sew loops of webbing with a half turn in them to form "pockets" at the front corners? I'd be afraid to use my trekking poles too. With my luck, they'd bend in half!

Let us know what you do, MS!
