I think mule tape its overkill for a tarp or hammock ridgeline. It would work, but if weight and bulk are an issue zing it, lash it, and dynaglide are slightly better choices. I like to use dutch's doo dads on my tarp ridgeline so mule tape is out for me on that, although with knots it would work.

I found if I see a Electrical Utility maintains truck on the side of the road I'll stop and tell them I have a project at home and was wondering if they had some old Mule tape on the truck I cold have. If you catch a guy having a good day chances are he will give you some. I was able to get 50 feet the other day

Look for landscapers planting balled in burlap trees, they often use muletape to tie the basket with.

I used to work with a guy who had access to tons of this stuff. He brought me a walmart bag full. I cut a few pieces to use as tarp ridgelines.

The problem I have noticed is that it's slick like amsteel, and so it doesn't hold a prusik made of muletape very well. I haven't tried any other kinds of cord for the prusik, because I just picked up some Spear No-tangle. If I could only find the time to make my 1st silnylon tarp....

    Re: Mule tape

Prussik loops need to be of a smaller diameter cord.... they do work on mule tape.

The stuff is slick, but does hold knots well.

    Hey John - PM sent.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."
