I 'll make my comments here as the last thing I need is another URL to keep up with.

My choice for a good "hangin" that would also draw well from the surrounding states would be just south of Beavers Bend on the river as it is beautiful, roomy and a real kick in the head shooting the Rock Garden and going over Presbyterian Falls at high water and could make for cheap thrills for those with a canoe or yak. As to when, April would be first rate.

Build it, and they will come.

Some thoughts...trees. Ya gotta have trees, and not just any trees. It's easy enough to find suitable spots for 2 or 3, but 20-30 can be challenging.

Rest rooms. A bunch of gnarlly dudes will happily rough it, but ladies, not so much. Clean restrooms with hot showers are a big plus.

Hiking in is cool, but it eliminates many potential attendees. Big numbers aren't necessarily the be all/end all, but you need to decide what's important to you.

Something to do: some are happy enough just chillin' by a fire, others need an activity. Hiking and paddling are high on most lists.

Time of year is a factor in site choice. Deep woods are great from late fall through early spring, but too hot and buggy the rest of the year. Water and/or altitude are your friends in the warmer months.

    This should get you started.

    Eastern Oklahoma for Sure

Eastern Oklahoma has the trees you need. If you pick somewhere on the southern side of Oklahoma, you'll probably pick up some Texans who just need an excuse to go hang out in the woods.

I'd suggest Beaver's Bend State Park. It's nice, has plenty of trees, plenty of campground space, and showers. Other fun things include hiking, canoeing, kayaking. Plus there's Broken Bow lake nearby for more recreational activity.

All of that is true. It is also the downside; BB is a very popular park, and can get crowded. Also, to the best of my understanding, tent/hammock/rv sites cannot be reserved...first come, first served. Again, not so much of a problem for 1 or 2, but significant for a large group.

Imo, Cedar Lake is the best choice for a group hang in SE OK, and maybe even the entire state. It is a large, well-layed-out USFS campground with hiking, boating, fishing, swimming, and turkey hunting (in season). There are plenty of well-spaced trees, the rest rooms (with showers!) are brand new, and they take reservations.
