    Need a 20* Compressible TQ

I'm looking for a 20* or below rated TQ or sleeping bag that compresses relatively small. I'm currently using a Koppen Viggo 20* synthetic bag that weighs in at 5.1 pounds and is about the size of two basketballs when compressed.....not ideal for putting in my backpack.

I know the saying is choose two between weight, warmth, and price. Are weight and compressiblity the same thing? I'm not so much worried about weight as I am about size. I honestly would be fine if the bag weighed 5 pounds but could fit in a nalegene. Small and warm...while relatively cheap is what I'm going for.

    Any suggestions are welcome!

I am pretty sure that any of the vendors here at HF would have available TQ's that would compress smaller than the 'two basketballs' you mentioned and be half the weight. You're lucky in that there is lots of choice.

any particulars apart from the above you wanted as well?

Size and weight aren't the same thing...but, unfortunately, for your purposes they're really close. Down packs into a smaller area than synthetic (and is lighter, too, which is why they're really close for your purposes), but is more expensive.

If you're DIY-capable, you can put together a quilt in the ~$130 range for 20*. But it's not something that I'd recommend as a first (or second, or maybe even third) project.

Otherwise, expect to shell out ~$200+ for a 20* down top quilt. That seems to be the running cost right now.

Yea thats pretty much what I thought. I was just looking for the cheapest 20 degree bag/quilt that also compresses as small as possible. Might just have to bite the bullet and shell out the money.

What he said I've seen 20º quilts less than twice the size if a nalgene! Down is the way to go for compressibility... unfortunately it is expensive.

For a compressible quilt you will find that down is the best option, and it is the lightest. The issue is you want small, warm, and affordable.

$230- Synthetic KAQ Owyhee (price for the 4 season or apex upgrades)
    $220- 900fp down Hammock Gear Burrow 20°
    $225- 850fp down Wilderness Logics 15°
$220- 850fp down Underground Quilts Flight Jacket 20°
    .....

That is your price point from most vendors, down or synthetic.

JRB three season quilts compress to 7x7x8 and come with a free, neat compression sack to make compression as tight or loose as you want.

I didn't include JRB into the mix in my list above because I didn't think they fit your criteria well enough. They are slightly more money and their ratings are a bit off of your specs. One is rated a few degrees warmer and the other quite a bit lower. They also use a slightly less quality down that I figure wouldn't compress as well in theory, but it wouldn't probably be enough to even tell with the naked eye. They are great quilts but in your equation of compressible, warm and cheap I don't think the strike as good of a balance.

JRB's 3-season top quilt is rated to 25°-30° degrees and is $250.
JRB's 4-season top quilt is rated to 5°-10° and is $280

JRB's 3-season hybrid quilt is rated to 25°-30° degrees and is $230.
JRB's 4-season hybrid quilt is rated to 5°-10° degrees and is $260.

You will need to look at the specs because they are not all the same sizes.

For example the JRB hybrids are 2" narrower than the HG, UGQG, but the same as the WL, but cost the about the same. KAQ doesn't publish much on specs for the Owyhee (or I'm just dense and can't find them)

The dedicated JRB top quilts are 2" wider than the HG, UGQG, and 4" wider than the WL, but they cost $20 more.

Some of this may be due to the included "compression" style sack, but the HG and UGQG also come with a stuff sack that is small enough that I wouldn't want to compress my quilts much more.
