    Ultralight/packable summer bags?

I am thinking about getting an ultra-light, super packable sleeping bag like the "The North Face Aleutian 1S 55 Degree Mummy Sleeping Bag" (1.8lbs, stuff size 7X10") as a starting place for my insulation in 60 degree plus weather (possibly paired with something like an HH Double Bubble pad).

The three ingredients I am looking for are:
    - Packed size (super small)
    - Weight (lighter is better!)
    - Price (cheap is always good)

I would love to get feedback from anyone who has this type of bag on how they like them, etc.

Lightweight camping comes with a big price tag just putting that out there. I would get the WL has a really good deal on summer top quilt and underquilt pack this will make your pack feel so much lighter. Here is a link

I forgot to mention that another reason for a bag vs. quilts was so that I could also use it for tent camping with the family.

I like the idea of the under/top quilt combo. Makes sense to me for sure.

If your sleeping on a pad in the tent there is no reason you couldn't use your topquilt in the tent... Tent camping is where topquilts started...

I did not know that. I have always used a sleeping bag and relied on the bag for padding (in addition to a pad) and warmth.

I think at this point the main thing that is going to keep me from getting the quilt is cost. That could change though in the next few weeks (depending on how quickly the weather here in VA warms up enough for me to try an overnight). Seems starting with a bag and pad keeps a nice path for upgrading open if I chose to, i.e. I can add an underquilt to the system for added warmth on the bottom and just use the bad as a quilt, then eventually move upscale to a quilt if that makes sense.

I don't want to overspend right now on something that might only get used a few nights a year.

Sort of. It might not be a good plan though so the feedback is totally appreciated. It maybe that might idea of using a bag and pad are a total failure. I am just hoping that if it is its a relatively cheap failure (I have a few expensive hobbies already which my wife likes to remind me of ).
