Never thought of Panty hose, but I've heard people used the cheap mesh shower balls. You just untie or unraval the knot and you have yourself one long mesh tube. I'm sure you would need two, but at something like a dollar a piece and just about any color you want it's not a bad place to start.

I buddy of mine who lives off the grid uses purple tiger stripe spandex bike pants. They seem to work pretty well. I never asked if they were his at one point. I would rather just assume he found them along the road one day.

In a pinch, and for limited use

Nylon hose are just not durable, the hooks from any hook/loop ie Velcro system causing fatal tears.

But if you've got nothing of the sort, and think you'll want to furl and unfurl your tarp for a weekend to a week, then for a couple of $ spent and no sewing, I've been pleased with them.

Now, the undone mesh "shower puffs": I'm going into the trash for a pair I just deposited there. Never thought of that.

Just don't use the ones hanging on the shower curtain rod. They are out of bounds. Buy your own, or take them from the trash can. It's been done with some success.

I found some cheap tights like Pips did in the thread linked above, and made some snakeskins from them. They are a little heavier than pantyhose, so they seem to be a little more forgiving about snags. I think I still might make some from bath puffs or something, though. The one thing I don't like is how the tights bunch up the tarp in storage mode, making it kink up and a little cumbersome. I have a PU coated tarp. I'm thinking sil might be easier to deal with in that regard since it is probably less stiff.

I tried deconstructing one of the puffy scrubby things. It totally shredded when I tried to slide it on. IMO, they are just not durable enough. Now, a pair of tights, that might work.
