switching out the suspension supposedly saves around 4 oz. Shorten it and switch to long straps and buckles or descender rings and it simplifies adjustment messing with the hammock internals. ;-)

I can't believe how much easier Whoopies are to the stock suspension. Got really tired of lashing and unlashing then lashing again.
Whoopies baby!
For me the main issue with the stock suspension was for minor adjustments. It takes a minute to tie the knot and if you then need to add/remove a few inches you have to go through the whole process again. With whoopie slings you can make adjustments easily w/o retying any knots. Plus the whoopies take half the time to set up to begin with. And lastly the rope on the stock suspension is massive in comparison to whoopies.
I guess I'll stick with the stock HH suspension for now, seems to work well.
Although I usually put my hammock up so that the suspension and hammock ridgeline are level, as per HH's recommendations. I've seen some guides saying use a 30* angle, but have yet to try that.
I've got the HH Ultralite Backpacker and the HH Camo Survivor. They're both fine for the job - though you could save an ounce here and there by swapping out suspension. Instead of the Figure 8 I use a slipped buntline hitch, which I find easier.

Ah, so many choices, which to try next? I am not sure what I will try next. I find the knots difficult for me to do, the put it up, adjust it, test it, re do it. Not to my liking. I just want to put it up and use it, comfortably.
Somehow or another I have a damaged cord on my Explorer, so I am going to have to go with a different suspension, probably whoopie slings. I just made a bunch of them, used up all my Amsteel. Guess I will have to purchase some more, lots of projects await my new ability to splice.
