Lightbulb Video: Gathering the end of the hammock

It seems to be all the rage to use a line through the end of the hammock to gather the end. However, that is not really necessary. Here are two time proven methods I use to gather the end of the hammock. These methods have the advantage that they can be easily removed to wash a hammock.

The subject also gave me the opportunity to try out the video on my new camping camera, a FugiFilm XP.

Original version (with music) replaced with musicless version.

    Bookmarked...thanks for the video.

"How to gather the end" is a question that I have seen asked several times over the short time I've been on HF. I've tried to describe various methods, posted a few photos and provided links to other sites.

In the future, I'll just provide this link. Nicely done.

Edit...just a request...it would be great to edit in a demonstration of "pulling the corners" to control floppy edges on a wide hammock.

Risk, great vid. The music however was a little overwhelming. I was so loud it made it hard to hear your commentary. Thanks again for all your inspiration over the years. I was trying to remember your wife's and son's trail names. Shows how far back I go as a fan. Welcome back!!

Anyone know how to reduce volume of music in iMovie without removing it entirely?

William has had numerous trail names. He has grown up into an ER nurse, dealing with folks that wander into an ER in the middle of the night. EllieD is my faithful and patient wife.

Looks like you can leave out the music, solve the level problem and keep the copyright police happy.

Anyway, good video I kept thinking I should make. Thanks for saving me the trouble. ;-))

Good advice. I guess I will have to play my own music if I want to avoid the copyright police.

    I will upload again tonight.

Original version now replaced with one that does not have music.

Glad you did this video Risk. I've always done the string in the channel method but a couple months ago, as I struggled to get a string through the hem of a tablecloth I wondered if the string was even necessary. You've shown it's not. Thanks.

Best tool I have seen for getting a string through a narrow channel is the plastic needle found in the crocheting section of stores like Jo-Ann's. I used a safety pin for years to thread strings for stuff sacks, but the plastic needle makes the chore much faster. The eye is large enough to pull zingit or 3/32 shock cord.

I like to avoid the strings for the hammock body, to keep them from getting hung up in a washing machine. It is the only part of my hammock set-up that I wash frequently.
