So the wife wants to hang.....

Have all the equipment. Just looking for the best method to get us side by side.

I thought I saw a thread on this before with what looked like a spreader bar separating the hammocks by the amsteel shackles....

Is it possible to use 2 of these say 18inches long to keep the hammocks separate while hanging from the same trees?

Hoping to get us both under my superfly and close together.

I searched "side by side" in various forums and couldn't find it.

So feel free to link it if your familiar with it.

    Thanks all!

One way to do it is to find two trees with the head end tree being a bigger diameter and hang your suspension on one side and hers on the other....that way you seperate and your tarp rigging is the same.....
Another is finding three trees with two trees about a few feet apart on the head end and one at the foot end....however rigging the tarp can be tricky depending on your rigging....
If you want you can go to my facebook page and look in the photo album "2 hammocks + 1 tarp = 3 trees" and see it for yourself to get a better idea....

I have not tried side by side, I have tried using a tree with both our hammocks rigged to it. I found it creepy, every time my daughter moved in her hammock I felt it, rather disconcerting for me. I might be a bit flaky about earth quakes or something.

When I was a kid, there was a big earthquake in Montana, a lake shifted, drowned a bunch of Cub Scouts, they were trapped in their sleeping bags. I seem to have a built in alarm about things moving when my brain thinks they should not. Blowing in the wind is good, having the tree I am suspended from moving without wind, not so good. Be sure your wife does not have any hidden issues about movement.

    Wow that's intense Iron fish.

I think the "2 hammocks + 1 tarp = 3 trees" will work best for you. Fronkey kind of shows the set up in this video:

Dutch sells Double Hammock Whoopie Hooks for this purpose. They may be what you were talking about with the spreader bar. I've never used them myself as I can't get the wife to try hanging yet, but his website includes a video demonstration. The other suggestions above should work as well but they limit site selection to places with three trees in the right places or at least one larger diameter tree for the head end. Good luck.

There are few places to discuss different ways to hang your wife without having someone knock on your door and haul you off to jail. One of the many things that distinguishes this forum.

I have the double hammock whoopie hooks and they work out well. Below is what I purchased from Quest Outfitters to serve as the spreader bar. This is what Dutch recommends.

Do you use poles at both the head and foot end?

Just the head end. I use regular whoopie hooks for the foot end suspension.
