Bill Irwin is the only blind man to have completed the AT and, to my knowledge, his guide dog Orient is the only dog to have done so as well.
His book, Blind Courage, is available on Amazon. When I got my copy on Kindle it was free and may still be.
Just one question, how tall are you? The Expedition may be a bit short if you are tall. I am 5'9" and prefer the Explorer UL over the Expedition.

Nope not free any more $4.99, but till worth the price. Blind Courage can be borrowed free from the Kindle Library.
When I did my section hike, I used my Grand Trunks Ultralight, so I don't think you should have a problem with a Hennessy. I plan on using my Hennessy Clone or my Expedition in May when I section hike Georgia.

I was going to mention that. I'm sleeping full time in a netless Expedition at home. I was going to use it as my winter hammock, but my feet sometimes hang off the edge and my TQ almost always falls out when I get out of it. I'm 5'10 or 5'11 de3pending on who's doing the measuring.
I thru hiked the AT in 2004 with a Hennessy ultralight. I think they only had one model back then. Any of the Hennessy hammocks should do fine for any thru hike you plan. I wouldn't dismiss the extra $80 for a savings of 1 lb quite so quickly. I suspect you'll wish you did once you start hiking, but it is your choice. Think of dividing the $80 by the number of days you plan to be on the trail and see if that helps justify the added cost.
I'm 6'3" and I used my Explorer Ultralite for my thru-hike in '09. Slept in it every single night on the trail except through the GSMNP where you are required to sleep in shelters, and through the Whites where I did work for stay at a few of the Huts and slept on the dining tables.

Well, I've already ordered my Expedition, so we'll see how it goes. If I find that it's unbearably small, I'll certainly return it and get a different one! =]
Its not that its unbearably small, its just that my feet do fit in the hammock, but they are close to the edge. If I move around some while sleeping, they can slip off. Its worth mentioning that this is probably b/c it has no net.
