Nothing fancy - I simply cut the zipper with the rest of the coat and then using the same bias tape used to cover the cut seam I simply extended the bias over the end of the zipper, folded it back and tacked right up against the teeth so that the zipper pull couldn't come off.

My zipper arrangement is kind of funky, the footbox part ends up zipping down towards my feet, then the extension zips towards my head (mostly cause it felt "right" to sew the waists together and then it ended up that way) and the jacket upper still zips up towards my chin as would be expected. I suppose I could have reversed the footbox zipper so as to allow me to zip only part way to be able to vary the amount of footbox that was closed but to be honest I was lazy

I have also added a pair of snaps to the outer part of the jacket collar on the footbox so that the collar can be folded inward and secured and the end of the footbox completely shut.

I am still debating on how to go about it, BUT.. I am 5'10" and two 3XLT will not fit my height, so.. I was thinking like pants, I tried putting my feet in the arms of the bottom jacket I unzipped the bottom coat about 2/3 of the way and they fit like pants.. almost.

I really am thinking I could wear the coat like a coat, who cares if the back compresses, and wear the bottom like pants..

I would have to cut the excess from the jacket and make booties at the feet end, but I really think this is doable.

I am 5 10 and my 3xts fit me fine as seen in pic. I did remove the zipper and sewn the waists together. Loran's is much better result than mine though!

The 3XL fits me normally good... The pants look funny, BUT.. They are functional.
I put velcro on each side to take up the slack and I am wearing sweats underneath the pants....

    Blanket schmanket.

Back to the Original design, (sorry about that... ) I am thinking of keeping the arms on the bottom jacket and putting them inside out, covering the neck hole with them and giving extra insulation at the feet.

It would defeat the vest portion, but my feet seem to always get colder anyway.

How did you plan to seal off the arms and the neck? Velcro?

I also noticed that you have the jacket on backwards for the top half, would it be more even insulation on the shoulders if you put it normal, and just lay on the areas that compress?
