    Diagonal & width?

Would it be easier to lay on the diagonal in a wider hammock?or would a narrow hammock be easier?

The wider hammocks tend to be more comfortable but they are heavier I make my DIY hammocks 90 inches wide because I sleep in them every night. But for camping I prefer between 60 and 72 inches wide because it still alowes a good flat lay and enough diagonal to keep calf pressure to a minimum the narrower the hammock the less comfortable.

In my experience, I have to get on more of a diagonal in a wider hammock to get comfortable (flat). I can lay in a narrower hammock more straight up and down and still be flat. This can effect your choice for a backpacking/camping hammock because a wider hammock can be harder to fit an underqult or peapod to if you have to lay on more of an angle. Your experience may differ, but that's what I have found. Good luck!

I think you might be asking the wrong question. It seems a no brainer the wider the hammock the wider the diagonal angle can be. BUT... if I read between the lines correctly you are asking about comfort. That's a personal issue. As noted above, different people have different expectations/preferences. Which would _you_ find most comfortable.... no clue. You'll have to experiment.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I'm in the same spot: I have never slept in hammock (yet) but I'm planning on bias wwm. The question is: how wide should i go?

Here's a link to a thread I started a few months ago about hammock width. As to length, the longer the better, but past 11' there doesn't seem to be much to gain.

Thanks, I was thinking it would take me forever to find your thread until I found you linked it.

In my experience, additional width past ~54" does little to add to flatness of lay or comfort. Additional length does add comfort.

Additional width beyond 54" can help prevent a top quilt from falling out.

I did a review (in the review section) of ENO vs. GT vs. Kammok. I found that the length makes all the difference. Width did not effect it nearly as much.

That being said, the ENO Double is more comfortable that the ENO Single. But, the ENO Double is not as comfortable as the GT or Kammok, as they are longer. But, given a longer hammock, I'd probably choose a narrower one. 60"-70" seems about right.
