Scout The Wonder Dog & The Bushwhackers--The Saga Begins

The last Scout The Wonder Dog Adventure, and links to previous ones can be found here.

Scout the Wonder Dog lay curled up beneath the Thread Injector table looking up at Sargevining; his loyal manservant, cook, and driver. He watched as the reflection of the amber glow of the Hammock Forums danced across Sargevining's face as he perused the computer.

"I hear we're having to abandon Plan A." says Scout.

"Yes." says Sargevining, "The Forest Service is up to its usual tricks. They will be setting fire to the forest where Plan A was to be executed."

"Merciful heavens!" exclaimed Scout, "The madness never ends does it? What is the fallback plan?"

"Hiking the Four Notch Loop from the Hunter's Camp at the Lone Star Hiking Trail Parking Lot #8." replied Sargevining. "And searching for a Hidden Lake."

"AH! A wilderness mystery!" shouts Scout. "I love those. What will be the camping arrangements?"

"Friday night we will car camp at the Hunter's Camp, then Saturday and Sunday we will stealth camp along the trail."

"Stealth camping! Splendid!" exclaimed Scout. "We will need disguises!"

Sargevining and Scout the Wonder Dog spent the rest of the evening debating the merits and need for disguises while stealth camping but, in the end, Scout pulled rank pointing out that manservants rarely make final decisions and the issue was settled.

They departed the Compound in Rosenberg that Friday morning, meeting up with Spaceweaseal, Scout determining that his Ninja Skills might be of use. Scout did think it unfortunate that Spaceweaseal's secret Ninja identity had been compromised after "The Incident" and tried to convince him that he too should wear a disguise, but Spaceweaseal demurred. The three of them sallied forth to Parking Lot #8 and met up with Uncle Mike.

While Spaceweasel and Uncle Mike made an initial exploratory foray down the Trail, Scout and Sargevining donned thier disguises.

"I'm beginning to think these disguises weren't the best choices I could have made." comments Scout The Wonder Dog. "The cow thing doesn't seem to be working for me here."

"Yes." replied Sargevining. "I don't think anybody is going to buy rastaman, either."

The disguises were quickly discarded and an agreement made that they would never be spoken of again.

    Camp was set.

    Spaceweaseal set up his Ridgerunner

Easttex arrived and began setting up

Gmpcts arrived with his sons to complete the Friday night crew

A campfire was built and they all sat around it until close to midnight. It was then that the identity of the Cookie Coon Whisperer was revealed, and in the process was born an identifying call that hammock hangers throughout the Southwest can sound in times of distress or if seeking others of like mind and spirit.

But, perhaps, the details are better saved for other campfires.

    Stay tuned for Part 2:

    The Bushwhackers.

Wooded & Urban areas, but I prefer the warmth under a low hanging hammock.
