How long can you span?

I've hung from trees about 30 feet apart. Hammock could hang wider, but the tarp couldn't.

With the minimum diameter trees I have to use, I can do & have done 25' easily, don't carry suspension to go much further. That's not really that impressive as my absolute minimum distance (due to the size of my tarp) is 14', so I start out having to hang from trees fairly far apart.

i'm thinking if you hang from 2 trees on top of 2 different hills and your hammock can go in the valley between them, you could get some good distance. there is a great spot close to my house to test this out on, the only problem is there is a creek at the bottom... the mud sucks you in over your knees. i think i'd need to make some ucr's to test that out, been wanting to make some of those. the doubling of whoopies may be too much rope.

I have done 12 metres for a trial/test/experiment. Started with a length of Amsteel between trees. The hammock was then suspended using one of the tree straps and then to a ring 3.5 metres along the Amsteel towards the other tree. Imagine one end of the hammock tied close to one tree and the other end suspended to a skyhook rather than the usual set up of hanging the hammock equidistant from both suspension points. I needed to adjust the height of the tree strap on the far tree a couple of times because I had trouble pulling the Amsteel between the trees, tight enough. First time I tested the hang with my weight, the thing sagged until the point I was sitting on the ground. Final result was one tree strap at normal height one end and the other tree strap was about 3 metres from the ground on the far tree.
