    Using a Prussick for Suspension?

I have used these knots before as ascenders on climbing ropes and static lines. I wonder if it would not work for my hammock suspension? I will try to use a Prussick on each end of the hammock suspension rope (stock Hennessey). Then I plan to use an SMC ring for the suspension line to loop through and come back to the Prussick. Then simply slide the Prussick til the sag is right and be done.

This should keep everything together and be very easy to set-up and take down.

    Am I missing anything here?

I use them on my tarp but I don't trust them to not drop my butt in the night. but I will be looking for how you did.

We use prussik knots attached to our safety ropes when we are treestand hunting so I don't know why it wouldn't work for hammock hanging.

Ya as long as the ropes are properly rated and the knots are properly tied there is no question that the knot will hold. The verb 'to prusik' means to use two (I always added a third for a handhold) prusik knots on a static line and slide one up at a time in order to ascend.

I know you know this Krazyjohnny, I just thought I'd add it for the naysayers.

Here is my setup , I am a beginner to hammocking myself so im sure there are better ways but until I buy some new ropes this works great. I am over 250lbs right now and it holds me with zero slippage.

I have done this before. With my first time hanging, I didn't know anything about anything. As gagodfrey said, I have the same set up on my tree stand safety rope that goes around the tree. Got some rope, I think it was 3/8", was rated well above my weight, but not climbing rated rope. Tied prusik on, didn't realize/know that the two ropes were supposed to be different sizes. Didn't drop, but did slip through the night. Woke up hanging real close to the ground. Live and learn. If you had the proper ropes, it should hold.......RR

I used a prusick knot on my hammock last week. Held fine. Easy to remove and adjust.

I would think you would still want tree straps though no?

I agree. Tree straps would be recommended.
