As I'm sure you know, in areas where you have elevation change, I struggle with "trusting" a weather report from a lower elevation.
Weather at 2000' low is 32* and up the mtn, at 5500, the same weather has a low of 15-20* and wind chill that could be deadly if you re only prepared for 32*.
I've been searching for a weather report at higher elevations...anyone know of a good, representative one?
I thought exactly the same thing, and went a googlin.

Found a recent thread on whiteblaze that has some pointers to sites I'd not seen before.

In particular I followed the HnryClay (who has posted here...maybe is coming??) pointer to the Appalachain Trail Weather Database that has an entry for every shelter, including of course the Wise Shelter with a link to a NOAA forecast..

Right now that gives a temperature range of 24-46 for Friday, and 23-38 for Saturday. Low for Sunday is not yet forecast.

Guessing the ground will be a little wet up there.

Hey AC, that's really nice of you! Mostly I was just teasing. I'm interested to see how my hammock and gear works at these temps for 2 nights. I would, however like to get inside one and take it for a short test run. Thanks much.

That's some good weather info, there. I was checking the NOAA site, as well as weather.com for Grayson Highlands State Park.

I know that the weather changes with elevation, but this is still a lot warmer than I was thinking it would be and did you see my gear list? There is more that I didn't list, as I'm on the bubble with the size of my pack(s). I guess it is just best to go with more than you think you'll need and be safe, than go with less and be sorry. Still, I have a lot of stuff.

Tomorrow it's 5-25F. Why can't we be out there right now?

I was excited for the first use of my new boots rated to -25F. Looks like I might not need them now! I'll bring them anyway.

The "newest" weather forcast from Refridgerator (see the other trip thread) is calling for a low of 17* on Sat night.
As much as the low temps are moving around, you would think this trip was in Indiana!
With the parking lot only approx 1 mile away, I'm gonna "push" my mid temp set-up a little bit (5-7*). I'll stash the warm stuff at the car if things go wrong.
I should sleep like a baby while there...I haven't slept all week I'm so excited!
