I worry about the rain and the bugs getting into the boots. I put my hat over the opening on my boots (saw that on a video here) and haven't had issue with critter nor water. . .That won't stop something from walking off with my boots, but i still think I'll sleep well.

Shoes!

When I am out, I dont wear my shoes into the hammock, and I hate leaving them on the ground because I have this weird thought that some coyote or other animal will take off with them.

So what do yall do with them ?

I think I may add a extra sized bag off the already existing bag that is on the outside of the hammock.

I have the grand trunk hammock.

You know how sometimes the underquilts needs snugging up? I sewed some tabs so I can run shock cord from the underquilts edge over the ridgeline. What if instead of tying the cord over the ridgeline to the other side, you hang a shoe on it and sling it over the ridgeline and do the opposite with the other shoe?
Can you picture it?

that makes sense... other than hitting your head on your dirty shoes... i think it would work wonderful with little stuff sacks for them to go in... then your not knocking the dried dirt into your nice clean hammock...

I was picturing the shoes hanging lower than the hammock, but acting as weights for the opposite side of the underquilt

in the summer I just tie the laces together and hang them on the foot end suspension in the winter I put them in a plastic bag and put them in the hammock with me

Breathable cotton bag hung off the suspension in the winter. Crocks below the hammock in warmer weather. I always shake shoes and clothing before putting it on. I stepped on a slug once that crawled in my shoe, never again. They are sticky things to get off your skin and out of whatever they got schushed on. We have a lot of spiders and when we lived in Mo, we had recluse spiders, little tiny scorpions. My little cotton bag is a little extra weight, but it keeps things out of my boots or shoes, lets them air out. Well worth the weight for me.
