    Tarp Pull Tab Placement

Hey everyone. I just got a hold of 8yds of silnylon, 5' wide ($2.00/yd at Jo-Anne's clearance-clearance sale). I'd like to build a 12X10 tarp for hammocking purposes. I really like the pictures I see where some of you with good sized tarps (usually 11X10) are able to close off the ends like doors and I'm wondering where would my optimal pull tab placements be if I want to do this, especially if I want to be able to do it on both ends. For this one, I'd rather not actually have to add door flaps to the tarp, but rather just be able to swing in the ends.

FYI - I'll be using it with a HH Expedition, or a DIY of my own design, but similar in length.

Any advice even remotely related to this project would be fantastic. Thanks in advance.

The JRB 11'x10' tarp has 5 tabs on its 10' side. These are evenly spaced at 30'".

You'd get similar door-closing ability if you spaced your pivot tabs 30" from the corners. Its not exactly the same because the JRB tarp oriented this way is 6" longer on each side than your 10'. One could do the trig to figure it all out, but my guess is that it doesn't matter very much.

Sclittlefield, just checking, are you sure you bought Sil and not DWR? I have seen some DWR but no sil at the joannes here in Kokomo. Just wondering, and what color did you find? Mule
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

It's the standard grey. And it's definitely sil. Sometimes they get clearance stuff that they don't sell normally - very rare and random, I just happened to luck out. I've made an 8X10 tarp and 8X12 out of sil (48" wide) I found at Walmart but have been hoping to find full 60" width stuff so I can have a tarp with better coverage that can go all the way to the ground if I want it to.

The JRB 11'x10' tarp has 5 tabs on its 10' side. These are evenly spaced at 30'".
Going by that, with a 12' tarp, sounds like I'd be set going every 3'.
