winter gear weight?

I am new to this sight and maybe this topic has been covered many times...but I could not find it.

So...I am wondering what most people end up with for a total weight on their hammock,under quilt,tarp,sleeping bag,etc. I am pushing 16-20lbs and am wondering if that is typical or ???

Oh, I live in the Pacific NW and will be spending most of my time in this area. So lows most likely in the 20-30s. Maybe colder in certain areas...

While I can't directly answer your question our nightly lows are about that most of the time with lows at night in summer rarely going above 40 degrees. So you will find that you end up bringing some of your winter gear all year long. I think probably the best way to do it would have a modular system.

Approx 20 or 30 degree top and bottom quilt (Down is great for most parts of the NW)
Silk liner for summer (not necessary as long as you go to bed in clean clothes)
Fleece liner for winter
UQ Protector which adds about 5 degrees to any system taken all seasons
hammock sock for winter
Tarp with at least one set of doors (Removable is good) just beware of where the wind is coming from. (Cuben is good for 3 season in Oregon but with the freezing rain we have I would not use it in winter)
A good layering system as you can add or subtract to add warmth in the hammock (in the rare circumstances where it is going to be really warm (For the northwest 40 plus degrees at night your layering system and fleece liner will suffice)

Bonus items for winter camping
Down booties w/ waterproof protective coverings
Extra water bottle for hot water in hammock.

My overall load for temps down to about 20F, including a liter of water and 4oz alcohol, 2 days food comes in around 22-25 lbs. I expect to keep it right in that range as I tweak various parts of the system. The UQ protector is probably a good place for you to start, as I understand it can be quite damp in OR (I've never been there). I am in the Chicago area, but I have not gone out for any of those insanely cold sub-zero type trips. I try to stay above 20F when camping.

lol, my top quilt and underquilt together weigh 70oz thats 4.35lbs

my zero degree is 5lb. that's just the hammock, quilts, tarp and suspension. the cuben tarp at 7 oz is what made a difference.

It can vary greatly. You can get all the way down to 4lbs for hammock/suspension/tarp/uq&tq down to 20degrees

There's snow where I'm at so I pull a pulk. It makes it way easier and you can bring the kitchen sink!

I am looking into the pulk. I also need to get an UQ built for my wife. She too loves the trees. We hope to make a trip out this winter.

Here is my basic load for 20º weather......a comfortable load at 17 pounds minus water, fuel and food. Basic load for 1 or more nights.
