    Figure 9 rope tightener question

    I ordered some self tensioning lines for my tarp, since I love the ones I have on my OES. I saw some figure 9 rope tighteners and since the price was right and the idea seemed good, I got a couple. Looking at them now, I wonder if they wear out the line, given how serrated ( grippy) they are....do they?

    One of the reasons I did not like Figure 9's was the teeth. I think it would eventually cause some wear but it would take a while since different parts of the line end up in the teeth due to different set ups.

    Exactly what I was thinking, it shouldn't be often the cord gets grabbed in the same exact spot.

    I've used Figure 9s on my tarps for quite a while now, plastic and metal, and have never had any issues. (I started with Nite Ize reflective cord with plastic F9s, then switched to Zpacks ZLine which caused the plastic ones to twist.)

    I too use figure 9s on my tarp and not showing any wear. They are quite handy
