I am constructing a bridge hammock for the Mt Rogers Hang Out. Currently, I have the following: Structured ridgeline (120”) with triangle length of 32” and spreader length of 36”.

What standards/ratios would you suggest?

i suggest a longer triangle, for less stress on the spreader, and more stability overall. my spreaders are 32" and I found that the bridge does best with lines about 38" long (measured from the long side of triangle) but my bridge is far more shallow than say the JrB so I need the extra stability. I drink rum. tippy hammock not welcome.

What you have is close to mine. There is tippiness but no danger in it. Longer triangles are generally better, I think mine were sized to keep my suspension completely under a tarp with a 10' ridgeline.

So I'd say to size the suspension triangle to be a little longer, 38" would be fine, but done in a way that you can retie and short if needed for the tarp.

oh yes, as Grizz pointed out a triangle that can be field-changed is a nice option. I am using amsteel blue with bowline knot at each corner. Then, a prussik to the cinch buckle. Although my lines exceed the coverage of my tarp, the amsteel drips water at the bowline quite well. Webbing, on the other hand is like a 'canal' that'll guide water right to ya.

you know, for all the years I've been driving past Ivanhoes I've never gone in. Looks like they spruced up the exterior a bit recently though.

Son graduates in May. But his brother might be interested in Taylor too, we'll see. They offer very nice merit scholarships, which is attractive for the signer of the tuition checks. Financial aid for college is hard to come by when you're in the middle class.
