I just recently started to look at leather working. I have my first project underway but it looks like this skill is going to take lots of practice. Good luck!!

Check out Tandy leather factory for the bits you can't fill in from here. I've been getting the leather working bug lately too. Post pics of your progress.

I started LW in past couple of months and you can start out cheap to see if you like it.
Go to Michael's or whatever craft shop is close. Pick up the needles and thread. You might want to get one of their LW kits to start. I got a sheath for my Leatherman and did it first. It taught me the basics of sewing and handling the leather without the need to know how to cut out my own pattern.
Hardware store for good utility knife with extra blades, awl for punching holes to sew, & sandpaper blocks for sanding down edges.
You can get cheap shoe dye and Sno-Seal (treating leather) at your local shoe store or my grocery store carries it.
Do a couple of piece, see if you like it then invest. There are lots of learning video's on Youtube that will help you get started at no cost.
Do you have a Tandy Leather store near you? That's a good place to get that kind of equipment. They often have sales and kits to get you started. That's where I buy most of my stuff.
I'll be happy to offer help/advice when needed. I have been doing leather work since I was a kid.
