I use zing-it to tie the tarp off over the hammock. There are some good tips here for doing it:

I use a combination of shock cord and zing-it to tie the tarp corners, etc. off to the ground. My favorite method so far is:

Breyman's link is a good one And Kayak-Karl's link can let you see the entire range of options.
I too use a loop of Bungee cord between my tarp and my guylines.
- Lash-it, Fling-it, Zing-it, Speer no-tangle, Spectra, or just ordinary mason's line all can work. There are probably others too...
- Then, there's the reflective guylines from Nite-Ize, and others
Basically, anything lightweight, low-bulk, non-stretchy, won't absorb water, and rated at least a few hundred Lbs test-strength. Spectra, for example, is 725Lb test (someone correct me if needed here).
Paracord - it's workable - but not so much - its heavier, bulkier, strechier (is that a word?). soaks up water too.
Edited for clarity:
I should have said:
I use a 6" loop of 1/8th in. Bungee cord between my tarp and my guylines.

thanks, i just ordered the zing it in 1.75mm and will pick up some shock cord locally for tie outs
No need for high test cord for your tarp. Mason line is not a couple hundred pound test and as mentioned works just fine. One only needs that much tensile strength if hanging from it. Not for the tarp. That said, I use spyderline which is a high tensile cord. I like it due to its ability to hold knots and to untie them in the worst possible conditions. It was designed for sailing rigging.

This setup works for me!
Zing it 1.75 or 2.2 works well... I have used paracord but even after really tightening things down I always woke up to a droopy flappy tarp ridgeline...
