    REI story

    Me (at the newly opened REI in Folsom CA): placing a Voile shovel on the counter;

    ClerK: What's your member number?

    Me: How'd you know I was a member? Usually the question is "are you a member?"

    Clerk: Oh, you're buying a member item, non members just buy clothes;

    Me: Hmm, very observant.

    I agree wholeheartedly. In fact when I was typing that I thought of that lol.

    I was in Rei this week and met a young kid who had said he was thru hiking April 1st and was asking the clerk for some tips. I jumped in and mentioned hammocks. He said he already has a Hennessy hyperlight! I was like yeaaaaa! He was asking about using pads with a hammock. After a little discussion on pad extenders and underquilts I then mentioned this site for more information...he has already been here!

    I then told him to check out shugs hammock how to videos...he hadn't seen them and I really hope he does.

    hammocking is absolutely catching on.

    I long for the day when I can shop for an underquilt at rei

    Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you can already buy an Underquilt at REI. Behold the Eno Ember UQ.

    And it looks like garbage, it looks like the paper boats I made as a kid. Then of coarse it's imported. My quilts;, Imported from the fine State of Idaho a bit west of the the town I was born in.

    Oh, weird, me rei does not have that uq...at least not yet.

    But rofl like a paper boat you made as a kid. Near spat my soda out lolol

    I like to fantasize that all the cottage vendor quilts would be on display and I can run around like a kiss in a candy shop.

    Heck, it's my fantasy, throw in Dutch gear and ula packs!

    Truth... and I'd also add that I could care less if REI gets the picture.

    I agree that he has it backwards. Nylon isn't used in climbing because of strength, it is used because it stretches. No stetch= broken back in a fall. The sudden stop from lack of stretch kills more climbers that actual suspension breaks. All ledge tents and hammocks used in climbing use polyester because it doesn't stretch. I'm a rock climber as if you couldn't tell, lol.
