    122" ridge line???

Ok guys.....all I read is ridge lines that are 90 to 109".... When I put my ridge line at those lengths .......the ridge line is so high I cannot reach it.....and I am laying like a bananna!

I can lay pretty flat with my ridge line at 122"....11ft hammock

Have I got something messed up here....is anyone else running with a 122" ridge line???????

    Tanks for any input

Ridgeline length is dependent on the length of the hammock fabric and what you think is comfortable.

An overall guideline is to start with a ridgeline that is around 83% of the length of the hammock fabric, and start dialing it in to your own comfort from there. 'Most' hangers find that approximate range to be suitable.

There's no wrong length if it suits you.

Totally agree, and I'm no expert. Only thing I would ask would be are you maybe not diagonal "enough"? I found I had to put my WBBB ridgeline way outside the norm, but that's why I loved my adjustable ridgeline. FWIW I've been using my Switchback for a while now and it's been my most comfortable hammock ever.... no ridgeline at all.

Agreed. I'm thinking you're laying straight in line with the hammock. You need lay on a diagonal to the hammock to get a flat lay. This also requires a fair amount of sag...say about 109"

It also depends on where you attach your ridge line. If it is at the larks head ir lashing where the suspension meets the cloth it will be shorter and lower than if it it attached to someplace like rings at the ends of the loops that are larks headed to the hammock and where they rest of the suspension is attached.

IMHO it is worth using an adjustable ridge line on a hammock and changing the length while keeping notes. You will learn what it's all about fairly quickly. ;-)
    YMMV

My new Hennessy clone - 11ft - has a ridge line thats 118" right now. I'm going to lengthen it a bit more, so play with the length till your happy with it. Everyone is different.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

    There are other variables too...
This may help (scroll down and fill in the variables).

well , I am laying diagonal......and I am attaching at aluminum rings.....My adjustable ridge line is almost all the way out at 122.....

when I am at 109....I have so much sag that when I lay down....my ridge line seems like its about 4 feet above me.....if I hung anything on it....there would be no way I could reach any of it.

With an 11 ft hammock, I have to keep my adjustable RL attached to the continuous loops at the hammock fabric. Any higher puts it out of reach. I keep a lot of sag and get pretty diagonal. Hammock also works well without the RL.
IIRC, it's out at around 112 - 114" most of the time. I will adjust it depending on the distance between trees and the height of the straps around the trees.

Since you have attached to rings at the end of loops (I assume) extended beyond the hammock body, you have to include those in the overall length for calculating the "83% rule". This location will also raise the ridgeline higher (and possibly out or reach) than if it was attached at the base of the suspension directly against the hammock body.

I'm guessing you are very close to the 83% rule like most hangers and just need to go back to enjoying the hang.
