    New River temperature testing

I've been using my New River UQ every weekend since Oct and have been warm and cozy down to 25*. I'm looking forward to some colder temps to see what the comfort limit will be. I was wondering how warm the NR was keeping me so the last 2 nights I have placed my thermometer between the UQ and the hammock to get a temp reading for the UQ. 74* seems to be the average temp inside the UQ. The temp got as high as 85*but that was right under my back. I moved the thermometer to the side so it wouldn't be reading right off my body and it seemed to stay at around 74* throughout the night. Next weekend I'll try the TQ and see what kind of numbers I get. Anyone ever do any temp testing on their UQ and what range of temps did you get?

Interesting! Hope you get some far colder temps for testing!

Great test there 2ply. I have always wondered about trying some testing like that with a few things...quilts, the BBO Top Cover, FlameThrower Socks....just to name a few. But I have never found a thermometer that I am really happy with performance wise to do it.

Last night I did some more backyard testing with the TQ. I clipped the thermometer to the TQ so it would be away from my body and the average reading was 88* in the TQ. Not bad for a 20* TQ and 30* UQ.

Might be worth looking for a food grade thermometer; they have to be accurate to a single degree to pass health inspection guidelines (or be calibratable [sp?] and precise to a degree; stick the thermometer's probe into a glass of ice water and then calibrate it per its instruction book to 32* F).

Only thing that might be an issue is that most of 'em have a sharp probe for taking internal temps on meat and such. Might be worth capping that before putting it near your hammock...

    Hope it helps!

I just ordered a new river with the 4 season upgrade, probably don't need it, but why not, eh?
I look forward to testing it in as low temperatures as I can find!

I've been able to get my New River and Owyhee down to 8 degrees with a Winter Sock and a couple of extra layers of thermals.

That's what I'm talking about! I've always felt this UQ should be a lot warmer, at least for some folks, than it's rated 30F!

New River came yesterday. My wife got the box and opened it up. She says..."what kind of sleeping bag is this?!?!" HAHA.

I explained what it was and then she remembered about the "under hammock bag thingie" as she called it. She also claimed the New River when we go to the Adirondacks this June, so guess I will be using the Jarbidge. No worries there.

But I will be using the New River this weekend. WooHoo.

Just a shout out to say THANK YOU to Paul and the AHE crew who did me justice by getting my order taken care of in time for this weekend.
