Unless you are a major gram weenie I would go with polyester over ripstop nylon. More comfortable and just as safe. That's my opinion.

What are other low cost ways to seal the ends of ripstop besides hemming?. I don't have access to a machine and would like to do something to make it last longer.
Try whipping the ends.

Making the assumption your desire is to prevent fraying of the fabric ends, either cut it with a "hot knife" (hot knife, wood burning iron, soldering iron/gun) or CAREFULLY pass the edge close (not in) to a candle flame.Originally Posted by hofer150

Make your whipping very tight, as there won't be the bulge a hem makes to guarantee the whipping can't slip off. You could also leave the fabric extra long and tie a knot in it.
