I have used zip ties for all my hammocks for a couple of years now. I have never had a problem with them, and I use 1" seat belt polyester webbing from strapworks. I was scared the first time I used them, and I always lay in gingerly the first time a make a hammock, but after that first time and everything gets tightened up under my weight, I never have to worry again.

I use the zip ties too, never had a problem yet with them.

Larkshead goes over and grabs material about 1" on the other side of the tie. When weight is applied, this material goes between the cord and the zip tie, which keeps the cord away from the zip tie and prevents the cord from pulling right up against the tie.

I still think the 5mm cord was too "stiff" to get a good bite on the material...When I went to take all the 5mm stuff off, it was very, very easy. The larks head wasn't even tight, came right undone with little extra effort.

The amsteel seems to cinch down harder...just an observation
