    Hello from San Antonio, Texas

I've been a car camper for years and I'm getting tired all my heavy camping gear so I want to keep it simple and light. User Risk has helped inform my views on lightweight camping and I've camped with him in Texas and was always interesting in his gear. As I search for gear I'm interesting in giving hammock camping a try. Joined to site to learn more.

Welcome to the madness Matt! You are already getting a ton of useful advice. I've read the book mentioned and it is fun and easy and useful. You have seen an couple of my hammocks and already know of a very nice place to hang behind the Star Shed. Your backyard may have trees about the right distance apart as well.

In your part of Texas, the cedars are terrible for hanging - shaped like they are cabbages. However, there are usually nice spots for hanging from other trees if you look around.

Watch out for fire ants while you are looking up into the trees.

Welcome, matthew! Yes, I recently gave all my heavy gear to my younger and stronger son. UL is truly awesome and there is a lot to learn here.
