    Ultra Ever Dry

Kind of a recent viral video of Ultra Ever Dry.

    http://www.ultraeverdrystore.com/

Not a lot of information about it yet. What do you all think? For tarps? For under quilts? For backpacks? Rain gear?
Duuuude, nanotechnology hits hammocks. Dental floss threads that tie their own knots is next.

This isn't the first of these nano tech "waterproofing" products.
However, they coat the fibers of the material such that they do not soak up water.
If you apply this to a mesh trail runner, your feet will get wet, but not the shoe.
In other words, water will still pass through the "pores" between the fibers, but the fibers themselves won't absorb water. Therefore, material that this applied to won't gain weight from the absorbed water.

However, this one seems to go a step further because the water ran off the cinder block, which is very porous

It would be interesting to see how this would work on wool, which stays warm when wet but gains a lot of weight.

I am very interested in the other products you alluded to. Let me know of some I should compare to the ultra ever dry.
This stuff is interesting to me because I know of no other product available to the general public that is as abrasion resistant, as durable, appropriate for as many applications, as easy to apply, as affordable and as safe for the environment as this one appears to be. Plus it seems like something that some people might be interested in.
Like I said, there isn't much in the way of reviews of it; it is fairly new I believe. I know what it is. I just want to know what members think of its potential, start a conversation.

Here's a link to a current discussion of this technology as it applies to backpacking.

My initial thoughts were that the xylene basecoat and acetone topcoat would make mincemeat out of all my thin polymer fabric and cordage, but it seems not. dyneema and nylon are both pretty solvent resistant. The PU coating would probably dissolve on ripstop though, leaving a messy gunk.

But the video is stunning, I can think of a thousand uses. Coating my boots for one. Everything in the children's bedroom another.

The "How to Use" video on their website gives some indication that this might not be suitable for outdoor gear applications.

    http://www.ultraeverdrystore.com/how-to-use/

The video states that the product "will fail if treated with detergents, soaps, solvents or high pressure water.... Also, excessive handling, especially with bare hands will cause a reduction in performance, as can severe abrasion."

I'm not sure, but I bet most DWR coatings also have the same style of warnings....
