About twice a week my wife walks down to the basement to find me asleep or going to sleep in my hammock... Same deal; I get a head shake then a 'have fun,' and she's back up the stairs.

I got "Don't you think you're going overboard with this camping stuff?" the other night. I just looked at him like he was crazy, when in fact it's me who looks a bit nutty with all the JC Penny Puffers sitting around waiting to be seam ripped and me hunched over my newly aquired can of coffee drawing out the vent holes and snip lines for the DIY rocket stove I was about to make (and completed quite nicely with the use of only a nail, ball-peen hammer, pair of heavy duty friskars scissors, cheap $1.99 grill grate and five paperclips).

Matter of fact it went so well I'm getting ready to make a smaller stove. Can't wait for the looks I'll get this time around!

Well they say opposites attract, I guess we have all married an opposite, which is supposed to balance us out. Yeah right!!! I think we need hang time to handle our opposites.

Sounds like we share the same basement.

I can relate to the head shake, I get it so often from the wife anymore I expect it when she walks down the steps.

After 22 years of Navy life, I thought he preferred being on his own...and I was wrong. He really enjoys it that we share this now. And I'm really sorry I tried to save him money (so he only had to buy gear for him, y'understand) by not getting involved sooner. I ain't giving it up for nuthin' now!
I've actually invited my wife on a couple of trips, unless there's a hotel around it's not happening. She was a Girl Scout and a Leader, she's all camped out.

That is exactly what my wife and I are. She loves the Sandy Beaches and I'd rather be standing in a mountain cold stream with a Fly Rod.

I finally think I won the hubby over with his very own hammock:

First time in it and yea, shoes on good enough for me though. Only took a few years to bring him over to the dark side. Now to scrounge a full set of gear for him... or new for me and handmedowns for him

I got the old, he got the new...and then I got new for Christmas and birthday, once he'd determined I was going to stick!

I was the luckiest guy ever, married a girl who's dad and grandfather were engineering professors. Nothin phased her. She actually encouraged a lot of my excentricities.

Fishbait, we gotta talk. I use my Witch stand in the basement all the time. Turtlelady stand was my inspiration.

My wife doesn't get it either. We'll be out paddling together for about 3 weeks in July. She'll have a tent and ill bring an extra hammock. The tent is the norm, tried and true. The hammock is an unknown. I think one night she'll try it. Then the tent will get stowed at the far end of the kayak for the rest of the trip.
