My wife just doesn't get it

Last Thursday I was feeling the need to do something about my Turtle Lady Stand and the fact that I couldn't use my hammock in the basement. We'll just call it a design flaw on my part and leave it at that. I had been toying with the idea of hanging a hammock from the floor/ceiling joists in the cellar and wend and bought the hardware a couple of weeks ago. I went overboard with the load limits, everything is rated at a 1/2 ton load limit but hey for less than $6.00 in hardware I'm not complaining. So after some drilling and fiddling with hardware, I hung my Second DIY hammock on Thursday night and gave it a test, heck even my 40lb Aussie jumped in for the test hang. Well my wife made one of her rare excursions into the cellar, saw the hammock hanging from the rafters, looked at me shook her head and walked back upstairs

At least it was only the headshake!

I can feel the pain. My wife is not much for running around outdoors and I have yet to convert her to even laying in a hammock. I have my work cut out for me!

I hope you guys don't give up, if you really want your wives to join you. It took me 8 years to figure out that "You can go if you want to" was Manspeak for "I'd really enjoy it if you'd come with me." After 22 years of Navy life, I thought he preferred being on his own...and I was wrong. He really enjoys it that we share this now. And I'm really sorry I tried to save him money (so he only had to buy gear for him, y'understand) by not getting involved sooner. I ain't giving it up for nuthin' now!

I've actually invited my wife on a couple of trips, unless there's a hotel around it's not happening. She was a Girl Scout and a Leader, she's all camped out.

Ha! I know the feeling. I did the same thing. Now my wife has to duck under the suspension everytime she goes to do the laundry!

Sounds like we share the same basement.

I can relate to the head shake, I get it so often from the wife anymore I expect it when she walks down the steps.

Some husbands don't get it either. I'm trying to get my husband to fix it so I can hang a hammock in my gear room. The interior walls are not completed yet, so it is the prime time to reinforce and add more wall supports where needed. He kind of just rolls his eyes when I bring it up.

Eventually it will get done, as wives have that way of making your lives miserable until we get our way.

I got "Don't you think you're going overboard with this camping stuff?" the other night. I just looked at him like he was crazy, when in fact it's me who looks a bit nutty with all the JC Penny Puffers sitting around waiting to be seam ripped and me hunched over my newly aquired can of coffee drawing out the vent holes and snip lines for the DIY rocket stove I was about to make (and completed quite nicely with the use of only a nail, ball-peen hammer, pair of heavy duty friskars scissors, cheap $1.99 grill grate and five paperclips).

Matter of fact it went so well I'm getting ready to make a smaller stove. Can't wait for the looks I'll get this time around!

I finally think I won the hubby over with his very own hammock:

First time in it and yea, shoes on good enough for me though. Only took a few years to bring him over to the dark side. Now to scrounge a full set of gear for him... or new for me and handmedowns for him
