    Down TQ/UQ from Grandma?!?

So hopefully the title of this post got your attention because I have an unusual question for you. I'm graduating college and my Grandma wants to buy me "bedding or furniture" of some kind, neither of which I need, but those are the terms. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend down quilts/comforters that can be re-purposed with a few modifications as top quilts or underquilts. This could maybe come from an outdoorsy online retailer, or a mainstream retailer, but probably not from a hammock-specific cottage gear maker because then my ruse will be revealed, and my TQ/UQ dreams will be left hanging, in the worst sense of the phrase.

Potential down quilt(s) would need to fit these criteria: Able to stand up to outdoor use, packable, and flat quilt style, as opposed to foot box or tapered style.

I suspect some folks will recommend that I just come out of the hammock closet and try not to be dishonest, but I'm fairly certain the mental image of me lollygagging about in a hammock was not part of Grandma's vision of my newly credentialed, industrious future...

    Thanks for the input!

I doubt you are going to find any that are made for home use to fit your needs. Mostly because of material and un-eeded weight, and cost of something not suited best for your needs. Come clean bro. You might be surprised. Besides, grandmothers will be constantly asking you how you like it? So if she buys you a $300 down comforter stuffed with 550 down, you trim it out and put the down in a nylon shell, you have inferior quilts versus price, and you'll have to lie to your grandma. No good will come from either. :^) God Bless

Outdoor bedding? You could maybe get away with getting a top quilt and tell her it is for keeping cosy on the sofa?

    Jack R Better Mr. Rogers

And they make a double size down quilt that is explicitly double duty.
The Mr. Rogers or Katahdin is the one you want. If you want more drape on a bed (and wish to keep it dust free), then enclose it for indoor use in a quilt cover. Buy that indoor quilt cover, or make one from a pair of cotton or cotton-polyester sheets of your choice. Easy peasy.
