I bought an old bag at a garage sale and am planning to use it as my top quilt. Are there any modifications I should do before doing so?

Depending on the bag, I couldn't see any modifications needed specifically for hammocks.
That being said, I have added 2 pockets on the inside to some of my sleeping bags. One at the foot and one about my chest to hold shake and bake hand warmers. They also double as small storage pocket.
Shug made me do it... that is what I say..
When asked why I sleep with my shoes on? I don't need to out run a bear, just need to out run my camp mates.
Awesome video. I wonder why starting as a new hammock camper I would purchase a top quilt instead of using an existing bag?
A lot of folks start out with a sleeping bag. I know I did. The TQ offers less bulk and weight when compared to a sleeping bad. But there is nothing wrong with using a sleeping bag. I didn't have a good down bag when I started hanging, but the synthetic worked.
Since joining here, I did pick up a down sleeping bag, and did use it, until I bought the TQ. Will keep it for doubling up and those really cold nights.............RR

Use my mummy bag as top quilt all the time. It has a built in foot box which is nice.
