    My First DIY

Well here's my first DIY hammock.

I think it may be too small due to the fact that I brain farted and only got 3 yards of fabric. But hey it's practice right?

I used a combo of a cinched and whipped end. I used two zip ties to cinch the end. And whipped with some paracord.

I've got some amsteel ordered from Redden Marine to make some whoopies. And I've got 4 yards of new fabric coming my way to make an 11 footer.

Nothing like trial and error. Hopefully this 9 footer will fit my 5'10'' 215 frame.

Thanks for everyone's help and a future thanks for the more questions to come!

Practice makes perfect! In the meantime, know any little kids that need a hammock?!

There's nothing wrong with a 9' hammock, I'm 5'11 and used one for a long time... I just find that a 10' or 11' hammock is a bit more comfortable.

That extra whipping doesn't help you any... the cinch ball will hold a suspension line just fine, and you might find it more comfortable.

If you sew end-channels instead of a cinch, (See Sgt Rock's Ghost hammock), you might find it compensates just a bit for the length...

Use your paracord to make a ridgeline, I think you'll find it more comfortable with more sag...

Nice first project! Welcome to the addiction!

    Nice job.

I agree the whipping isn't necessary with the cinched end. Take it off and you will gain a few inches in length.

My supplies are en-route for my first DIY hammock. I am planning on sewing channels instead of cinching. No other reason other than I like the looks of it better.

Once you get your second hammock finished take a family member or neighborhood kid camping with you. They will love for it.
