Sleeping double in a hammock, done it?

I know there are a lot of double size hammocks on the market (I just bought one), but I haven't heard too much good with trying to sleep two in a hammock.

Of those that have done it, would you do it again?
Any good tips, tricks or pointers?

I'm expecting to be taking my oldest son on one or more of my adventure trips this summer, which means sharing a hammock or tent with him. He's turning 4 in a few months and with his aspergers, I need to keep close tabs on him or I'll wake up to find him trying to start the fire and make breakfast (which he can do, but shouldn't do unattended at his age).

I'm not concerned about the camping and traveling with him (he's been hiking and camping with me since he was 2 weeks old), but we've always been in regular tents when sleeping.

From a thread that was just started about sleeping two in a hammock

If you look around the forum, you'll find others who have tried to find a way for two people to sleep together in a camping hammock, but I haven't read many success stories.

I just noticed that thread after I posted mine.

The double bridge hammocks that a few folks here have made seem like the best bet on sleeping two to a single hammock system.

    Thanks for the links.
These may be overkill for myself and a ~35lb son, but definitely some good ideas.
A bridge retrofit (our trek poles), may be enough.

If the 35 lb. son sleeps on top of you, it might not be too uncomfortable. My 20 lb. dog sometimes sleeps in my hammock on top of me, and we're fine.

    Very true.
I'll do a couple simple over night trips with him and see how it works out.
Worst comes to worse, a number of bells attached to his own hammock could be the easiest solution.
