I live in the southern part of the state so I do most of my hiking in the Ouachita National Forest.
Just got into hammocks this month but have been hiking for a while and spending time in the woods since I could walk. Up until my hammock purchase I was doing utlralight hiking with a typical total pack weight of 11-12lbs for a 3 day trip. On one of my recent trips when I did a lot of miles it hit me that the difference on my body at 12lbs and 20lbs is not noticeable so I decided to fix the one thing I don't enjoy much about hiking, sleeping on the ground. So I traded in my 1lb tarp tent setup for a little more than 3lbs worth of hammock stuff.
I got an ENO single nest with the Sil Profly tarp. I orginally purchased the Slapstrap Pros but quickly decided I did not like them and upgraded to the Atlas straps which I like a lot. Added an adjustable ridgeline pretty early on. So Far I've spent one full night out in it and have hung around plently in the backyard testing it out and learning different ways to tie the tarp(found a way using mini bungies to tie to the strap without getting tarp sag).
On my full overnight out it got down to 28F and I was nice and warm in my Marmot Plasma 15 sleeping bag with a Gossamer Gear Nightlight torso length pad underneath me. The pad despite what I'd read and seen on Youtube videos didn't move at all and in fact had to pry it out in the morning as it was wedged in and molded to the shape of the hammock so well.
As of right now I don't know how I could ever go back to sleeping on the ground. Slept like a rock in that thing(instead of on a rock).
