By the way what is it like in parking out there? Is it pretty safe? Are there any issues with breakins or vandalism on cars?

Update!!!
I had a very nice conversation with Bunnie Watkins (USACE--Perry Lake). Here is a few highlights of our convo:
1. I reconfirmed that primitive camping IS allowed along the trail w/o permit.
2. She will be contacting the water district to have the water spigot turned on for us.
3. She is snail-mailing me brochures, maps, and terra-fauna guides for the area.
4. She will be in contact with the rangers/sheriffs dept. to have them keep an eye on our vehicles.
5. She informed me that the lake level is down about 6 feet but said there was no issue regarding filtering water other than it may be a bit more difficult to access the source.
6. She gave me her cell # and the Ranger's cell # if we have any questions, need to report issues, or I.C.E.
7. Trail maintenance was performed in November, but said if we would like to do any, it would be much appreciated, or reporting of issues would also be appreciated.
Looking forward to this weekend.

This is why you guys are da bomb to hang with.
Thanks Ramen!!!
Gotta say that it's really cool that she's going to have the water turned on for us, and have the sheriff/rangers keep an eye on our vehicles.
I'm going to TRY to be onsite in the parking lot area around 3 as well, but it may be a little problematical.
We have an ETA for any of the other folks? Maybe plan on meeting up around 3 or so for those that live here in the area?
So . . . Would a chainsaw be considered part of an ultralight backpack rig?
I'm so envious of you guys! Wish I could get off work and go with you all. I'm glade you guys have the rangers and sheriffs on your side.
I too got some snail mail. They included two very large maps of the trail and tons of other information about the lake.
Good luck and be safe! Happy hanging!

I'll hike in Saturday afternoon proaly 3pm. See you guys then
