Sewing another layer to single layer hammock

Has anyone ever sewed another layer of hammock material to a single layer to make a double. I was thinking of sewing another layer of material to my HH Expedition so I could use the pads without wrestling with the pad in the hammock. Do any of the custom work vendors do this type of thing as a modification? I am trying to learn to sew so I really am afraid of making a mess of it. Is this even worth doing?

hi ive just purchased a net hammock for the purpose of suspending a mat underneath
if adjusted correctly it should be held firm against the bottom of the main hammock
i"m hoping it will also hold an UQ without the sag in the middle
all this is theoretical at the moment fingers crossed

    2 Grand Trunks

I had 2 Grand Trunks that I sewed together. I left an opening to insert a pad. On the ends, I used just one channel. I also did a gather end and it worked just fine. However, for me, the GT are too small & the gather ends made it even shorter.

I sewed a "pad pocket" layer on my ENO Double nest.
I took the suspension out so I could lay the hammock spread out flat on the floor.
I measured the distance from the side seams that are where the usual two color panels come together and added a half inch on both sides for the rolled hem.
Cut the material , roled the edges with the rolled hem attachment and then sewed the material on along the existing seam mentioned above.
Re-installed the suspension and continued to use as before.

Works fine for CCF pads and once I put a semi inflated Exped DownMat 9 in on one winter camping trip. It contured well to the curve and kept me warm.
Also, with nothing it it for warm weather camping, it keeps the mosquitoes from bitting through on the bottom.

Re: Sewing another layer to single layer hammock

Although I have not tried it... Just as a mental exercise it seems very doable... Take off suspension, lay out flat stitch on new piece just inside the old piece so that you can use the old one as your load bearing and the new layer would just be enough strength to hold up the mat... Doesn't seem unreasonable or difficult to see it...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...
