    Tarp for dayhikes

Hey all, newbie here... I have been lurking for some time, thanks for all the good info.
I am relatively new to hammock camping and am loving being off the ground!

My question though is about day hikes. I try to be prepared and keep an assortment of essentials in my bag for day hikes.

So, what would you recommend in the way of a tarp for the 'just in case' my day hike turns into an overnighter, or the rainstorm descends? I am typically hiking with just one other person.

I am looking for a small package but also versatile... ideas?

Campmor.com has inexpensive sil tarps in all sizes...you need to seal the seem(s).

Unless you're planning to bring your hammock on day hikes, I'd just bring a poncho that I can set-up as temp shelter during a storm.

Saw lots of roadrunners growing up in the Texas hillcountry. If you get your name because of your speed, you can just outrun the storms.

lol no, the roadrunner has to do with my speed of driving (and the fact I seem to spend my life driving to meetings) not running!

Thanks for the ideas... I'll check out campmor and see what I can find in sil tarps or ponchos.

    You Tube Videos

There are some viedos on Youtube that show how to turn a simple tarp into a shelter. I have done this with my pancho and my golite tarp. The videos are pretty informative.

For emergencies on dayhikes, a disposable plastic rain poncho and/or mylar space blanket sounds reasonable in moderate climates. They don't cost or weigh much. Of course you may want more in more demanding climates. A headlamp or flashlight is good to have as well and doesn't have to weigh much either.

Take a look at this link. Your tarp can double as your rain gear.

...and there came to be a day, all too soon, that I became aware that I could travel no more on my long journey. Though I did not arrive where I had planned, I believe that here is exactly where I am supposed to be...
