    Guide Gear Tarp

I just ordered the 8'5"x8'5" tarp from sportsmans guide.
$30.98 shipped, not a bad price for a tarp.
Not sure if it will need a waterproof coating or not.

Hopefully the quality is better this year than last year's bunch.

From what I read on the forums, they weren't all exactly what you would call water proof. Some were leaking like sieve, but most just didn't have the ridgeline sealed. The bigest complaint though was that the measurements had been changed to be on the the diagonal instead of along the sides (as it had been in the past) without any notification, so people were ending up with much smaller tarps than they had expected. Hopefully they got the coating issues fixed this year, making them still the best deal on a tarp around.

    Lasts year's thread.

The pretty stake bag that came with mine.

And a few of the roughly 100 needle holes that also came with mine.

What mine did not come with was the advertised seam taping or the listed size.

Add in the 1/2 hour on the phone it took me to educate them on what the correct refund would be and they have lost me business.

I read something interesting this week about factoriy workers in China not returning to work after their new year holiday. Apparently it is a problem in China and the factories have to hire and retrain new workers to replace the workers who didn't return. The article was specifically about toy manufacturers, but I would think it would apply to other goods. Maybe the problems with the tarps were that they were a batch of the new hire ones.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Last year's batch advertised tape seams - but there were no taped seams. I seam sealed the ridgeline but the tarp leaked from all over, indicating that there probably wasn't even a waterproof coating. And the stitching was pathetic - something like five stitches per inch. I didn't even know they had such a setting on a sewing machine. The tie-outs came off when a butterfly flew by - I had to reinforce them all. What a waste of time and money.

While the tarps from last year were junk, the ones from the year before were great. I have one of the older tarps, and it has withstood some pretty good rain storms, with no leaks anywhere. It was my go to winter tarp, until I bought a SF. I did have to add the ridgeline tieouts because there were none if your using it square. It seems they were made to be used as a diamond.....RR

I plan on using it as a diamond. Should it not be waterproof, I'm sure I can fix that.

Ditto exactly (that's why I specify in my avatar). I hope your new green one is great like the white ones were!!!
