I know the Turtlelady and Turtle dog thread is very large, but there is some explanation on the forces being applied to the tripods.

I am assuming that you are going to try the following.. A----A----A

The center tripod would be taking half of your load and half of the other persons load, while the other two would be taking half of each of the loads.

I am no expert but this is what I think would be happening...say you were 225 and the other person was 125.

    Tripod 1 would have 1/2 of the 225 = 112.5
    Tripod 2 would have the other half and half of the 125 = 112.5 + 62.5 = 175 lbs
Tripod 3 would have the other half of 125 = 62.5

I have seen others that are closer to 300lbs in one of these and each of their tripods would be holding 150 easily.

I strapped my tricep rope to one of the stands and hung on it with all my weight, 250lbs on a good day and it didn't complain at all. But as I said, I am no expert...

I would think as long as the other ridgeline poles had their own whoopie continuous rope on the middle tripod, (Around one of the other poles and not sharing a pole) and you ensured that your hammock lashing was right at each whoopie connection, there wouldn't be a problem. It will be certainly interesting to see.

You could angle it too to be at a 30 degree angle as long as the center tripod is stable, I can say on carpet, this thing is rock solid, but I wanted the limiters anyway as a shelf, so they will just stay with the setup.

I would try it, the aluminum poles are very sturdy, they didn't budge along the ridgline for me, but I lashed right at the whoopie loop.
    Agfadoc,
Thanks for all of that info in one place.
There are images somewhere in the turtlelady and turtledog threads of three tripods in use at the beach.
We will be using them vanCamping.

    gmcttr,
I figured that would be the best, footend for the shared tripod.
Yes, checking the hardware at each setup ( have learned to check the hardware ).

What are the thoughts on staking out, as additional stability, if needed on the un-paired tripod?
( There is that wonderful two-pole wonder that a member made for scout-field-camping.)

Mustardman's marvel is something to think about.
Yet . . . Sometimes only one A(lum)-turtle-art-doc will be needed.

Or is that a AturtleAA stand : aluminum-turtlelady-Artjrk-Agfadoc-stand

Here are the images... I'd like to see a better detail of how he is hanging the two poles on single tripod...

Nice setup and adaptation of the various uses! Glad what I did with the TurtleLady could help in some small way.

I LOVE my stands and also fit them in the trunk of my Camry. Those poles really are fantastic. Super modular. I can use a 3 pole cross beam for my 10' and 11' gathered end hammocks and a 4 pole cross beam for my RidgeRunner.

Thanks for the idea with the hardware attachment points. I'm still using lashings and while they certainly work, that hardware is definitely a more durable/sturdy solution. I'll have to give it a try on one of my sets!

Another version of the Aluminum Surplus Military Pole Stand

Wife gave the setup a quick test...

    Rigged up the WBBB.

In it I now hang, all 300+lbs of me.

Yeah! She was like, "So I can hang off it? Like this?"

Then I said, "Well, it would appear so! Looks like it works! Do it again and I'll snap a photo!"

So glad to be able to hang indoors for the first time.

Isn't it awesome? Hanging indoors...My wife gets bent about all my stuff, but she tolerates me and would never have tried that, only after I did.

    Thanks for posting this!

Agfadoc - many thanks for this post. I just finished my stand this evening and am very pleased with the result. Thanks to your instructions, this was a one-trip-to-the-hardware-store and only a 2-beer project... I'm not the most skilled D-I-Y'er so if I can do this then anyone can.

This stand will be great for backyard hanging and car camping trips - really surprising how easily portable the whole setup is with the military carry bag. I used a 24" loop for connecting the ridge pole to the tripods - still working on how to easily adjust the pole height. I haven't tried to hang the hammock yet but plan on trying the tire tube wrap as suggested by gmcttr.

Now I have to talk Mrs. Hawghanger into making some shelves for the limiter cords...

    Good Stuff - thanks again.

That's one of the easy things. Wrap the loop around the ridgepole multiple times to adjust it up or down. See the first photo in my post #50.
