Hello HF! First outdoor hang today in new HH!

Hello everyone, I'm Mike from Buffalo, and today was my first time setting up my new Hennessy expedition. I've owned a eno single nest for a few years for lounging around but now have put my single man tent on the shelf. Toady I went for a 4 mile hike in the niagara river gorge and set up the HH for a test run. I couldn't be happier! The snake skins are in my opinion a wonderful innovation and I am very pleased with how they worked out. The stock rain fly seems adequate, but I may include a larger tarp in my kit as I tend to get rained on. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season and already have two, nine day trips planned. Love the forum and have already found tons of useful info and ideas to consider! Cheers and happy hanging!

Welcome to the madness from Guam. It always rains here, but since I don't own a hennessey I can't speak on the coverage of the stock tarp. It should be plenty of coverage for average rain, but if the winds kick up a lot you might get your stuff wet, I don't really know. There are underquilt protectors you can buy to help alleviate that to an extent, but nothing gives you the peace of mind like a larger tarp does. About all I do know about the stock tarp is that it is sort of heavy for what it is. I think it's a poly coated tarp. Most upgrade anything they buy after a while regardless of what they get, but it's all part of the hobby we all love and enjoy.

There are a lot of people that use hennessey systems and can better comment on them. Just check out the subforum for their gear. Anyways welcome and happy hangin'...

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

Welcome to the forum! I'm still using the stock tarp. Covers just fine if set up right. I'll be making a larger one, mainly for extra coverage outside the hammock.

The stock tarp works fine for rain falling straight down, but the first time I got blowing rain I ditched it for a larger tarp. Some will argue that you can set it up to take the wind broadside to stay dry, but they must have very cooperative wind where they live. The wind always shifts wherever I go in the Northeast.

welcome! I've had no time to set up my expedition with the snow storms so i'm no help on the stock tarp. I also have the Hex tarp so i'm sure i'll be jumping between the two.
