I try not to think about all the nice things I could have bought if I had just the smallest amount of restraint; spilt milk.
My gear makes me happy, being happy keeps everyone else safe. Therefore, my hammock related purchases are essentially acts of public safety. I feel good about that.
That should be on the back of a Hammock Forums T-shirt!

Sanity? Sleeping on the ground sounds pretty nutty! The hammock life style has a considerable following, and growing.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.

I'm still looking to get underquilts for both of us, two additional sets of snakeskins, a new pack for myself, and what the OP started it all off with, I'll be spending around $100-150 with Dutch for all new suspension gear! I blame everyone on this site!!!!You don't actually tell your wives what you spent do you?

I'd be really interested to hear more of your story, as the gear arrives and you see what happens as you get to know it and eventually hit the trail. You're likely to meet some interesting people and learn some more neat stuff along the way. Do tell!
    Interesting thought.
But don't get the wrong idea. I'm a very outdoorsy person to begin with. I grew up on a farm, I hunt, camp, and all that jazz so I am well acquainted with the woods and wilderness. I've always just used a vehicle to get to my destination and haul my gear instead of my feet.

Honestly mine is probably over 1k as well but my wife was hover over my shoulder when I was typing

Better still. It's likely you made some pretty good choices in choosing your gear.
