Any ideas on how to make a "Bunk Bed" Style DIY Frame

So a few buddies of mine have a spare room that they're looking for something to do with....

That's where y'all come in - I've already sold them on the idea of creating a couple walls of hammocks (just 1 wall to start out) and call the room "The Hammock Room" - No Joke!

However, I've tried searching for a time where someone made bunk style hammock frames. Or, the best way to make a stand that holds 2 people with separate hammocks. Only problem is, I want to go vertical.

I have recently made a stand with 1" steel pipe and it's super easy to make, so that's where my mind goes instantly... problem is, I can't envision what it should look like.

    Any ideas HF?

All you need to do is make the stand taller. Or, eye bolts right into the studs would be the simplest.

Taller would be first step... Maybe attaching together at the bottom as well as the top to fix with the splaying out with 400+ lbs on it... Eye bolts are easy to do... 1.5 pipe should be over kill enough for longevity...

    Yup, just make it taller.
A pole/conduit ridge line for each hammock will keep the supports from getting too bendy.

I wish we could use eye bolts, but it's a condo and they rent...

My questions is - how tall should I make it in total height?

I can see the potential way to stack them exactly how you've described. You'll basically have two "ridge poles" so you'll just be stacking one stand on another.

The problem is....how in the world does the guy on top get in/out of the hammock safely? I've seen folks stack hammocks between strong trees so the two hammocks only hang about 2 or 3 feet above one another. So, the person in the top hammock is able to get in if you give them a little help. The two hammocks sort of "spoon". With a pair of cross-bars you're going to have to hang that top hammock basically at ceiling height and climb in/out using a step ladder or similar device. That's just a youtube video away from a trip to the ER.

I'm pretty sure Gilligan and the Skipper used to do this but they were always falling out on top of each other.

As far as height... That's going to be a ratio between stand length and hammock that's in it... My hammock height is like 32 inches from the bottom of the hammock to the ridgeline at the longest point... So assuming I could get the ends of the hammock directly attached to ridge pole where the ridgeline was on the ridge pole... 32x2+(1.5x2) and that should give you your total height assuming the bottom guys butt is almost on the ground... Assuming your hammock is the same as mine... It's going to take some tinkering... It's going to be a balance game too... Getting the bottom guy high enough to get in and out with out blowing a knee... And the top guy low enough so no ladder is required... There is a lot to consider...
