    Yet another person from FL

My name is Ronde and I live in the Ocala area. A friend of mine has had a HH for a while and loves it.

Long story short, I just got a HH to bring on a 7 day backpacking trip on the GA section of the AT. It will be my first real trip doing this. (Not to worry, I run a lot). Along with the AT trip, since I live close to the ONF I plan on doing some day hikes as well as some overnighters there too.

A lot of the backpacking sites speak highly of this forum and after looking around a bit, here I am.

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. Keep an eye open for the annual hike-n-hang in the Richloam/ Green Swamp area, weather permitting.

Hello from another Central Floridian, still dripping wet behind the ears so may I ask a question right off the bat? Can you go anywhere in the ONF and camp? I'm planning to hit that area asap but don't have a clue where a person can camp.

    Welcome from south Florida!

Take some time to test your new system in the backyard before hitting the AT.

Tophat, according to what I have read on the ONF site, you can camp anywhere except during general gun season when you have to use the campgrounds.

Welcome from Kissimmee! And to Tophat, you might want to look into Hidden Pond, its about a 3 mile hike in, with plenty of trees and water to filter from. Also, there's usually a few of us HF members hanging out there each weekend. Here's some info about it, but contrary to what the USDA website says, there are no toilets Its a true primitive campsite.
